MSNBC reports this morning that more workers in the "Baby Boom" generation, now in their sixties, expect to delay retirement to age 70 and beyond. Following the recent stock market nose dive, retirement portfolios have taken a huge hit, with aging workers scrambling to make up the difference. The effects of delayed retirement extend far beyond one generation, however. Shock waves from the aging boom are hitting Gen X and Y workers, discovering a tighter than ever job market with little prospect of relief. Not only are the Boomers not retiring, but major employers quite likely are not replacing them with new workers when they do.
