Yes, they are hard to find. But one of the few good ones is Sparkplugging, which bills itself as “Work at Home Resources & Community for the Web 2.0 Generation.” More than just not a rip off, this site is actually kind of great. What makes it so great? Sparkplugging has grown into a true web community, where people who work from home share their success stories, tips, and problems with their virtual coworkers.

A few particularly useful sections are “Freelance Parent” and CraftBoom! (for work at home craft businesses). In combination with our list of great small business resources, sites like Sparkplugging can take some of the isolation out of working from home.

    Thanks Marc. :)

That’s quite a compliment coming from someone who was building an internet business when I was still mucking around in my first failed (offline) business when my daughter was one!

The only thing I used the internet for in 1995 was to read the SBA website and email the 5 friends I had who also had email. I remember seeing my first digital video around that time and thinking we’d hit the mecca of technology!

Congrats on your 13th year of business!

    Hi Wendy,

I’ve just started here as Contributing Editor of Careers.Org, and you’ve reminded me to start signing my posts! However, Marc did tell me specifically that he liked this entry. I think your site is a fabulous resource.
