Medical Secretary/Assistant - Associate Degree at Kaplan College
The objective of the Medical Secretary/ Assistant program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for entry-level positions as medical secretaries or assistants in a variety of healthcare facilities such as clinics, health maintenance organizations, hospitals, insurance companies, and physicians' offices. The program combines classroom instruction in medical secretarial office skills and management, laboratory screening techniques, and medical assisting. Students will have an opportunity for the practical application of this knowledge through an externship at a College-approved medical facility. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree. Graduates of this program may assist the physician in physical examinations, minor surgery, and EKG charts; perform laboratory testing with a knowledge of normal and abnormal results; take and record vital signs; perform skills necessary for clerical and secretarial duties; and maintain patient confidentiality.
