The objective of the Medical Receptionist program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the field. Curriculum will provide students with the basic medical background and business skills required by individuals working in secretarial/clerical positions in clinics, government health departments, health maintenance organizations, hospital reception areas, physicians' offices, and psychiatric centers. Communication and public relations techniques are stressed, and classroom knowledge and skills are refined through an externship at a College-approved medical facility. Upon successful?completion of the program, graduates will?be awarded a Lower Division Certificate. Graduates of this program may answer and screen phone calls, schedule patients for routine visits and surgery, handle emergencies, perform medical transcription in the office setting, and manage the front desk. Acting as a liaison between the physician and the client, graduates demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and maintain patient confidentiality.
