The objective of the Refrigeration, Heating, and Air Conditioning program is to prepare students with the knowledge of troubleshooting, repair and safety skills needed for entry-level positions in the RHAC industry. This will be achieved through discussion, lectures and extensive hands-on laboratory experience with actual RHAC equipment. The following hand tools and instrumentation are used in this program: copper pipe assembly using tubing benders; brazing/soldering torches; leak-testing; evacuating/charging with temperature and pressure methods; refrigeration recovery equipment; testing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical/mechanical problems; walk-in boxes; icemakers; reach-in cases; window and central air conditioning systems; heat pumps; warm air gas and oil-fired furnaces; CO2 efficiency tests; electronic air filters; humidification and dehumidification; and the study of psychometrics and hydronic gas-fired systems. Preparation for the EPA Refrigeration certification exam and the exam are included.
