The Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to work in a healthcare setting performing a broad range of administrative and clinical tasks delegated by, or under the direct supervision of, a physician. Graduation is acknowledged by awarding a diploma upon satisfactory completion of the program. Medical Assistants are allied health professionals who assist physicians and perform a broad range of administrative and clinical duties. Administrative duties may include scheduling and receiving patients, maintaining medical records, performing basic secretarial skills and medical transcription. Clinical duties may include asepsis and infection control, taking patient histories and vital signs, assisting the physician with examinations, performing routine laboratory and diagnostic tests, and preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician.
