The objective of the Medical Insurance Coder and Biller program is to prepare students to pursue entry-level positions in the occupations and job titles to which the program is represented to lead. Graduates of this program may qualify for entry-level positions as medical office personnel, medical records technicians, coding specialists, insurance processors and medical billing specialists. With the advent of managed care, there is an increased need for non-clinical medical office personnel who have the knowledge and skills to work with insurance billings. The professional duties may include analyzing medical records, assigning codes to classify diagnoses and procedures and providing support for the medical reimbursement system.
