The objective of this program is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue entry-level positions as surgical assistants in the hospital setting. Considering job opportunities in the office/outpatient setting, which may require additional clinical and administrative skills, our program includes core medical assisting competencies. Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C); National Certified ECG Technician (NCET); and National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) exams administered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Up to 35 semester hours of appropriate ACE (American Council on Education) credit recommendations from courses shared with the Medical Assisting Program can be utilized for Thomas Edison State College's Associate Degree in Applied Science in Medical Assisting.
