The objective of the Electrician program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position as an electrician. This program provides instruction in the basic fundamentals of electricity and its practical applications; instructs students in direct current and alternating current circuitry; residential, commercial and industrial wiring, along with specialized areas such as motors and motor control circuits, transformer installations and services requirements; and provides instruction of the National Electrical Code and its application to safe electrical installations. Students may use their skills in entry-level positions as electricians on new construction projects, on additions for restoration sites, or may secure commercial or industrial maintenance positions. Graduates of the program may utilize their skills to find entry-level employment as an electrician in various companies to include: building construction and design; general building construction; commercial and residential construction; construction equipment and supply; hobby and model construction supplies; lake and pond maintenance; paving contractors and construction; and swimming pool contractors.
