The mission of the school of nursing is to prepare registered nurses for entry-level practice. The nursing program will prepare the graduate to practice nursing safely and effectively as a novice in a generalist setting. The graduate nurse accepts responsibility for continuing the process of personal and professional growth in the advancement from novice to expert. Faculty members expect the graduate to serve as a positive role model in the practice setting by promoting principles of heathful living and participating in the process of bring healing to the sick. The program provides graduates with a foundation to accept responsibility to develop and maintain their expertise in practice and accountability to the public.

At Baton Rouge General's School of Nursing, we're dedicated to helping students become highly skilled RN's. We're focused on the latest treatment techniques, technologies and holistic care in a world where nurses are some of the most valuable professionals.

Fully accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Committee and approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, the General's Nursing school is one of national notoriety. In 2007, we ranked #1 in the U.S. out of 818 schools nationwide for the percentage of graduates passing the national licensing exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). For the past ten years, we have successfully placed our students in the workplace immediately following graduation.

Baton Rouge General's School of Nursing is a two year program of study and admitted students begin their program each year in January.

In addition to chemistry (high school or college) and computer literacy, all eight required general education courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better. The required general education courses are part of the program of study and must be completed at a university of the student's choice approved by the school. Seven of the required courses must be completed prior to January of the year of entry into the General's School of Nursing. The remaining course for three semester hours must be completed prior to May 25 of the year of entry. This course is limited to Human Nutrition or Developmental Psychology.
