The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is primarily a two-year college in Clark County, Nevada, with one four-year degree in Dental Hygiene. The school is the largest public higher education institution in Nevada and the third largest of its kind in the nation. Founded in 1971 as Clark County Community College, the school became Community College of Southern Nevada in 1991. On March 16, 2007, the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education voted to change the name of the school to College of Southern Nevada effective July 1, 2007. College of Southern Nevada has three main campuses in the Las Vegas metropolitan area: the Charleston Campus, Cheyenne Campus and Henderson Campus. It is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education. CSN provides degrees in hospitality management and training in such fields as the culinary arts, dealing, and travel and tourism. CSN has trained more than a million students for the work force.[citation needed] It routinely graduates the largest number of nurses every year. The college also has the most diverse student body, serving half the state's minority population along with more than 700 international students from more than 60 countries. In fall 2007, 44.8 percent of students were Caucasian, 20.8 percent Hispanic, 10.8 percent Asian and 10.1 percent African American. Nationally the college enrolls students from 48 states in more than 3,000 classes each semester. The majority of students, 74.1 percent or 28,880, attend part time and 25.9 percent or 10,110 students attend full time. The college is a member of the Scenic West Athletic Conference and a Division I member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. CSN also boasts the National Junior College 2003 World Series Champion men's baseball team.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Community College of Southern Nevada is to implement the UCCSN mission by identifying the needs of the citizens of Southern Nevada and providing educational and support services to meet those needs in the areas of general education, transfer preparation, vocational education, basic skills development, adult education and community service. In meeting the needs of the community it serves the College provides student-centered services that recognize the uniqueness of the individual, demonstrate excellence, utilize up-to-date facilities, emphasize comprehensive use of technology, and rely upon the collaborative efforts of the College, the students and the community.
