University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) is a Christian co-educational liberal arts institution of higher learning located in Belton, Texas. Founded by the Republic of Texas in 1845, as "Baylor Female College" it has grown to approximately 2,700 students and awards degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctorate levels. It is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The university is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). UMHB's first doctoral program, leading to the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), officially began in June 2007 with twenty-one students in the inaugural class. The overall student/faculty ratio is 15:1.

Mission Statement

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is a Christ-centered institution of higher learning operating in affiliation with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Christian principles and beliefs form the basis of the educational environment of the university. The University seeks to provide a quality higher education for qualified students from diverse geographic, ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds as they prepare for careers and community service. The faculty, staff, and administration plan, execute, and evaluate the undergraduate program, the graduate program, and all the attendant support services of the University. Through commitment to Christian principles, quality administrative practices, academic excellence, and academic freedom, the University dedicates itself to effective teaching in a Christian environment.
