Tribal Colleges and Universities

Tribal Colleges and Universities are a category of minority-serving higher education institutions in the United States.

Most Tribal Colleges are located on or near Indian reservations and Native American communities, providing access to post-secondary education, accredited degrees, and vocational training for both Native American and non-Native American students.

In many instances, cultures and traditions of the local Native American tribes are a part of the Tribal College curriculum.

Funding an Education at a Tribal Colleges:

One of the smallest minority populations that is recognized in the United States is the Native American community. Most Native Americans today have interracial backgrounds, but their ancestory dates back far before European explorers stepped foot in North America. Since the Native American population is limited in number, so too are the opportunities for education and scholarships.

Tribal colleges offer the opportunity for Native Americans to pursue an education in a friendly environemtn with like-minded students.  Native Americans can apply for most federal and state scholarship programs to fund an education at such a tribal college, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.
