Make a bigger difference



The Therapeutic Nursery provides services for children 3 to 5 years of age, include evaluation and center-based special education classrooms with a developmentally based interdisciplinary team approach. Small group and individualized services are provided to children, as well as their parents/family. Funded by NYC Department of Education (CPSE).



A Head Teacher is responsible for the management, care and overall treatment of a group of developmentally delayed pre-school children in a classroom setting.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities of the Head Teacher as a Remedial Educator are:

  • To supervise assistant teachers, teaching interns, student teachers and/or volunteers
  • To plan and implement an individualized program which meets the educational and emotional needs of each child, in collaboration with the clinical staff
  • To provide a therapeutic milieu for all of the children
  •  To keep observational notes, conduct ongoing informal assessments, and write educational session notes and progress reports for each child.
  • As a member of an interdisciplinary team, to participate in weekly integration conferences and case presentation/treatment plan reviews.
  • To meet with parents for semi-annual conferences; to confer with parents on a regular basis via notebooks, phone and/or email.
  • To participate in screening observations of prospective therapeutic nursery school candidates.
  • To conduct and write up CPSE evaluations.



Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.




He/She is required to have a Masters degree in Special Education and New York State certification in Special Education and experience in preschool special education.
