Purpose of Job

Key member of the engineering leadership team leading the hardware engineering department. Creates and leads a world-class hardware organization for the flawless execution of product development for hardware design for automotive instrument cluster, HUD, and other company products. Leads the vision, strategy, and direction for the hardware organization. Researches, studies, and utilizes new technologies, products, suppliers, processes, tools, and industry trends. Leads the implementation and creation of best-in-class product, cost, efficiency, and performance.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

•Develops a world-class hardware engineering organization with focus on optimal efficiency through highly-capable employees, effective and efficient processes, and an effective organizational structure.  
•Oversees the planning, organizing, controlling of, and leading of multiple projects for the design and development of Instrument clusters and HUD Products. Responsible for all activities through the product realization cycle for hardware design and development for IPC, HUD, and other Products. 
•Monitors and ensures quality hardware products are delivered on time and under budget.
•Creates and sets objectives for the Hardware organization. Develops, monitors, documents, and ensures key engineering cost and productivity metrics are achieved.
•Sets direction of hardware development in regards to reusability and commonality and best practices for hardware development aligned with NSHQ. 
•Ensures standardization of products and processes across multiple projects. 
•Determines key goals and objectives for the teams, reviews, track, measure monthly key performance indicator (KPI) reports and amends actions as appropriate; focuses on the timely achievement of these goals and objectives.
•Ensures teams’ work products are robust and completed on time: DFMEA, test plans, BOM, schematic, Design Rules, System Design Sheet, worst case analysis calculations, simulations, waveform measurements, test procedures, test reports.
•Selects, completes agreements, and manages outside resources to support product development and lower overall development costs.
•Facilitates discussions between external customers and internal developmental engineering teams; escalates issues that impact NSI business to leadership team. 
•Provides leadership during Request for Quote (RFQ) activities including timing plans, risk analysis, new technology proposals, and cost reduction ideas to enable new business awards. 
•Develops/supports Engineering presentations for program specific technical solutions and presents to the OEM customer(s).
•Provides technical leadership as necessary.
•Develops program and overall departmental budgets for the hardware department for production programs, pursuits, and advanced projects including labor, capex, and expenses. 
•Monitors all costs for team and ensures spending stays within program and department budgets, creating and implementing actions when exceeding targets.  
•Leads generations and implementation of cost reduction ideas meeting company targets for scope of responsibility.
•Studies work duties of teams, identified core activities, and implements lower cost labor locations for work identified to be able to be outsourced.  
•Leads benchmarking activities, participation in industry events, and hardware component supplier offering for potential use in future products.
•Identifies areas of process deficiency and implements improvements, working with and fully supporting Engineering Operations team on adhering to ASPICE processes and instilling a continuous improvement mindset in teams.
•Represents team in the creation and implementation of company technology and product strategy.
•Actively investigates new technology and improvements and opportunities for developing new business or expanding current product line.
•Represents Company in program, performance, cost savings, and other customer meetings for the hardware team.
•Leads active participation in quality gates and ensures processes are adhered to on all programs.
•Leads team toward the development of year over year process efficiency and effectiveness improvements.
Education, Experience and Knowledge

Required and/or preferred level of education, knowledge and skills that are necessary.


Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.

Related Experience

•Experience demostrating effective leadership, directly or in-directly, for multi- disciplinary teams is required.
•4 – 7 years of effective engineering leadership at an automotive tier one company.
•10 total years in electrical engineering preferably with a large portion in instrument panel clusters, HUD’s, ECU’s, and / or related products.
•Extensive and effective engineering leadership experience in Automotive or Tier 1.
•In depth understanding of hardware development and best practices in development, testing (including EMC), analysis and design tools, associated standards (IEEE, etc.), ISO26262, and ASPICE/CMMI. 
•Strong leadership capabilities and experience with proven ability to achieve maximum results through others.
•Proven capability of creating, inspiring, and motivating highly capable technical teams resulting in high retention rate. 
•In depth knowledge of the of product development lifecycle including requirements management, development, test, product release and sustaining engineering.
•Experience in developing / managing technical performance measures and quantifying progress through the use of metrics.
•Experience in analyzing processes and creating and implementing process improvements.
•Excellent communication skills capable of effectively communicating with all levels of the organization.
•Technical capability enabling close attention to design details and is committed to achieving design quality standards as set in design project goals.
•Proven commitment to achieving customer (internal and external) satisfaction, takes ownership of the design issues, works with other Lead Engineers/ Peers to address any unresolved design issues pertaining to customers.
•Good listening skills, ability to build relationships, and flexible approach working with peers across diverse background.
•Capability to recognize problems early, systematically gathering information, sorting through complex issues and responding accordingly, performing root-cause analysis and making timely decisions; Seeking input from others, and reaching team consensus as applicable.

Work Hours
Monday-Friday, 8 am – 5pm. Off-hours as needed.
Travel Requirements

10 % international and/or domestic. 

If domestic travel is necessary, valid drivers’ license is required.

If international travel is necessary, valid passport is required.
