Job Description

We are a family-owned, century-old company and we need quality people to join our team.

We have been in business since 1911 and are a full service heavy construction equipment dealer serving Kansas, western Missouri, northeast Oklahoma, and northwest Arkansas.  The Victor L. Phillips Company is currently recruiting for a Service Technician based out of our Kansas City, Missouri location.

 

Requirements:

Must have 6 years minimum experience in Construction Industry, Equipment Repair, Agriculture Repairs, Hydraulic, or Electric Repairs.  You must be strong structured, disciplined, and have strong communication skills with manager in the corporate Kansas City office.

Job Description

Performs various duties to support the Service Department and the company, including (but not limited to):

Repair or maintain customer or VLP equipment as assigned.

    • Diagnose repairs; research as needed using service manuals or other sources.

    • Complete repairs / maintenance.

    • Provides assistance to coworkers as needed.

Complete proper paperwork.
    • Document repairs on work orders, including warranty paperwork.

    • Time in and out of work orders appropriately.

Work with other departments and supervisor to achieve customer satisfaction.
    • Order and obtain parts from the parts department.

    • Communicate with supervisor about customer problems and resolutions.

Maintain clean work area and shop.
    • Dispose safely and properly of waste

    • Maintain neat and orderly toolbox, both personal and the company.

Other Duties as assigned.
    • Duties may include the safe operation of a motor vehicle to and from customer work sites.

    • Duties may include minor building maintenance.

  1. Must perform above duties according to current safety standards and in accordance with departmental and company policies and procedures.

  2. Must be able to maintain a high standard of quantity and quality of work.

  3. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

  4. Must be able to work from service orders, verbal instructions, or other directive materials.

  5. Must be able to work in a team environment.

Job Specifications

Reports to: Service Manager or Service Foreman

Education Required: High school equivalency, prefer vocational degree.

Experience:        

         C: 1-2 years of mechanic experience or vocational training in hydraulic / diesel technology.

         B: 3-5 years of construction / agricultural mechanic experience.

         A: 6+ years of construction / agricultural mechanic experience.

Physical Effort:

  • Frequent walking.

  • Frequent gross body movements of arms and legs.

  • Frequent twisting of the torso.

  • Frequent climbing of steps up to approximately 36".

  • Frequent maneuvering and lifting of approximately 100+ pounds.

  • Frequent hand manipulation, including application of excessive force in the use of hand tools.

  • Occasional verbal communication.

  • Occasional written communication.

  • Infrequent keyboarding.

Other Requirements:

  1. Must have own hand tools.

  2. Must have proven job stability.  Must be able to be DOT certified and insurable under company’s liability policy.

  3. Must be able to research repair procedures and parts, both in written form and on computer.

  4. Must be able to attend training courses to expand skill levels as requested.

  5. Must be able to make sound judgments based on available facts.

  6. Must possess professional demeanor.

  7. Must be available to work overtime.
