What's Hot: Some students will be happy to learn that they are helping “Educational, Vocational and School Counselors” top both the size (243,100) and pay scale ($53,540) categories in the Community and Social Services occupational group. Interestingly, the “Probation Officers and Correctional Treatment Specialists” occupation ranks second in both categories with 97,130 members earning $49,520 on average. That these two top-ranked occupations seem almost intertwined perhaps explains why school counselors often playfully refer to their students as those “little devils” and many students mischievously consider themselves ‘prisoners’ while at school.

What's Not: The underrated professional “Social and Human Service Assistants” are also undervalued averaging $29,170 and “Religious Workers, All Other” are also among the Least Paid at $32,360 followed by “Rehabilitation Counselors” at $34,600. In addition, “Directors, Religious Activities and Education” are at $40,260 and “Clergy” at $45,440.
