Madison is a city in Boone County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 2,677 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Boone County. Madison was first established as Boone Court House. It was burned during the American Civil War and was then incorporated in 1906 and named for Colonel William Madison Peyton, a pioneer coal operator, who was a leader in the movement which resulted in the formation of Boone County.
