Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It became Georgia's ninth county in 1784 in honor of Ben Franklin. It covered all of what is now Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, Oconee, and Stephens counties, parts of Gwinnett, Hall, Hart, and Madison counties, as well as three counties in South Carolina.
