Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1799. As of 2000, the population is 15,060. Its county seat is New Castle. the county is named for Patrick Henry. The farmer-poet Wendell Berry lives in Henry County. Since the 1990s it has become an increasingly important exurb county for the city of Louisville, especially as land prices have skyrocketed in neighboring Oldham County. With regard to the sale of alcohol, it is classified as a moist county—a county in which alcohol sales are prohibited (a dry county), but containing a "wet" city, in this case Eminence, where package alcohol sales are allowed.
