Marion County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 28,289. Its county seat is Palmyra. The county was organized in 1826 and named for Gen. Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox", who served in the American Revolutionary War; the area was known as the "Two Rivers Country" before organization.
