Lauderdale County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population was 78,161. The county seat is Meridian. It is the largest county in the Meridian Micropolitan Statistical Area. Lauderdale County is named for colonel James Lauderdale, who was killed at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812.
