Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and is part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 202,897. It was created on March 28, 1781 from part of Westmoreland County. Its county seat is Washington. Both the county and the city were named for American Revolutionary War leader George Washington, later to become the first President of the United States.
