Pittsylvania County is a county located in the U.S. state — officially, "Commonwealth" — of Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the population was 61,745. Its county seat is Chatham. Pittsylvania County and the independent city of Danville, Virginia are combined in the Danville, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
